Note to Readers

Blog sites are a controversial issue among employers, and public schools are no exception. Many schools worry about students or parents having access to information about teachers' personal lives. Whether this concern is founded or unfounded, the existence of publicly accessible blogs can play a role in hiring and firing decisions. (I believe this may have happened to me at least once.) For this reason, most of the posts in this blog are friends-locked; that gives me a means of limiting my audience, in order to comply with employers' wishes and expectations, both stated and unstated. Please contact me offline or comment here if you would like access. (Note: for the reasons previously stated, I will not "friend" current students at the school where I am employed.)

I'm a serious geek. I'm interested in pretty much everything (ooooooooooh--shiny thing!), so I have collected quite a few hobbies over the years. (See the "interests" section for details.)

I love to travel. I've been to five continents (including Antarctica).

I'm married with two daughters. They're geeks too. :-)

Career

I'm an MIT alumnus (chemical engineering & biology). I've worked as a (chemical) process engineer and a software engineer, and am now a high school teacher.
